Welcome to Mahjong 101!

To get the most out of this course, it will be helpful if you have the following two things. You can still learn without them, but having these physically in your hands as you go through this course will help you learn quickly and confidently.

1. A mahjong tile set - any set will do as long as it is for American Mahjong.

   • Many tile sets have extra tiles. So be sure to remove extra jokers, flowers and blanks. For official Mahjong rules, you will play with:

     • 8 jokers

     • 8 flowers

     • No blank tiles.

2. A mahjong card. A few of many options include:

   • Official NMJL card (this is the card we demo throughout the course).

   • The Big Card

   • Free printable card at ilovemahj.com - it's fine to use this as you start out. You will likely want to switch to an official card soon after you catch the mahjong bug!
